First Ever - 7.3 Stage Limiter

The 7.3L Powerstroke has a serious following. Yeah it's slow. Yeah you can make a ton more power with way less money, with just about any other platform except say the 6.5. But those who love the 7.3 continue to push the limits of the almost 30-year old engine. Brian Jelich is one of these 7.3 guru's and for years he's been one to watch if you're a 7.3 fan. Brian has been campaigning his race truck for longer than we can remember, pushing it to new heights over and over again. The latest hurdle? A staging limiter. With this new tech Brian can be more consistent with his launches on the drag strip. Check out the video in the link below and have a listen to this beast.

Incoming: Snot Rocket 3.0

A couple weeks back we shared the sale of Brett LaSala's famous (or infamous) Coyote powered Snot Rocket 2.0. The full bodied S197 chassis Mustang that ran the rugged edge of legality with a best 6.26 ET in the quarter, which made it the quickest radial tire car in existence. With a chassis only legal for 5.99 and below, it came as no surprise that the car was sold. And we knew Brett wouldn't be out of racing for long and recently plans were revealed. Snot Rocket 3.0 will be "basically the same car" says Brett, "We are transferring over the same engine, transmission, turbo kit, and wiring." The new chassis will be built by Moore Race Chassis and a weight loss program is planned. The question is, how long till we see 5's out of the new Snot Rocket?

Diesel Camaro

There seems to be a bunch of new diesel race cars popping up lately. The latest one we've noticed is being worked on by Ryan Milliken of Hardway Performance. Ryan has been posting photos of the build recently and we just want to know more. The build is a 4th generation Camaro drag car packed with a billet block, Duramax based engine from Wagler Performance. The build belongs to Ned Amey from Perth, Australia. Thats right, diesel's are cool down under too. Check out Ryan's latest post on Facebook, linked below. The Camaro is doing passes on a hub dyno, shifting at a ridiculous 6500 RPM!

Refrigerator Engine Swaps??

Ok, this isn't something we really believed. At first we thought it was click bait but after a bit of searching, we found more than a few instances of this happening. We found a bunch actually. People are taking apart diesel powered refrigerators and swapping the engines into their smaller vehicles. And it makes perfect sense. But why now? First, a little info: California produces a ton of produce. Much of that produce has to travel in refrigerated vans/semi-trailers. Now that the California has banned many types of internal combustion engines, the diesel engines used to power these refrigerated trailers can no longer be used within the state. So there are thousands of these engines available for next to nothing in cost. The engine in question is a 2.2L 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated, V2203 Kubota. Makes a little more sense now, huh? One thing that concerns us? Engines that are designed to spend most their life at a constant RPM (think generators or ship engines) generally use pistons with shorter skirts because they won't experience as much side load as an engine designed to change it's RPM often. If that's the case with these V2203 engines, there's about to be a new market for upgraded pistons very soon.

The vehicles in question are 2021-2022 Broncos, Explorers, F150's, Lincoln Nautilus and Aviators equipped with either the 2.7 or 3.0 liter Nano EcoBoost. From Ford: "An engine intake valve that fails may lead to catastrophic engine damage resulting in a loss of motive power," Ford said in the recall report. "A loss of motive power can increase the risk of a crash."
