More Drag and Drive Action!

Now that summer is on its way out and it's nice and cool (ish), guess what that means? It's Drag and Drive time. We don't know who did the scheduling, but the Redwood Rally, Raceweek, and Drag Week all occured this last week, with hundreds of cars making the trip down the track in each of these events. The format is the same for all the Drag n Drives.....no trailers unless you're pulling one, and your car must drive to every track and make a pass. There's of course carnage and people dropping out along the way, but the times that are run at these events are quite impressive. One the West Coast, Shane Propst took the Unlimited class in his '67 Nova with a 4.61-second 1/8th mile average, that involved a whole lot of driving ability on slightly sketchy tracks. On Drag Week Bryant Goldstone came away the Overall and Unlimited Iron winner in his Javelin after a massive thrash involving a torched cylinder head and swapped transmission with a 6.67-second average. Lastly, the Raceweek winner was Eric Kuhn in his beautiful '55 Chevy with a 7.49-second average. While the crazy time cars get a lot of coverage, there's classes for virtually everything you can think of, from bracket cars, to motorcycles, to radial cars, to N/A monsters. The point is fun and perseverance, and we're willing to bet the hundreds of racers all across the country this week had tons of it!

New Mustang GTD Confirmed at 815hp

If you were one of the few that decided, hey, my GT500 feels slow, good news because the new Mustang GTD has been confirmed at a whopping 815 horsepower. Power just isn't the whole story with the GTD however, as the main goal was to create a Mustang Supercar, a vehicle that could handle, break, and crest 200 mph in stock form, just like some of the quickest and fastest Supercars of the World. To this end, Ford not only gave the car horsepower, but active aero, carbon ceramic brakes, and titanium exhaust. All of this surely figures into the Mustang's enormous $325k price tag. Ford has stated that their main goal is to run the famed Nuremberg Ring in under 7 minutes, a feat that has so far been performed by only a handful of cars. To give an idea of how fast this actually is, Nissan's GTR, the now defunct Viper ACR, and the Mclaren 720s have all yet to eclipse the 7-minute barrier in stock form. The Ultimate Factory Mustang? It just might be.

KC Maxx a 4-Time Winner at War in the Woods

Perhaps one of the most well-known and feared no prep racers around is Ryan Mitchell, or as a lot of people know him, KC Maxx. Ryan has been around street and no-prep style racing for the better part of a decade, and has been perfecting his same basic combination of big block Chevy power in a Firebird wrapper. After switching from twin turbos to a Procharger, Ryan has kept with his winning ways, and after getting past SRC's Billy "The Kid" in the semi finals, the Frankenstein Vette jumped, and Ryan got another one. For those wondering how much power this type of racing takes, we're willing to bet they're putting in a good 1,500-2,000rwhp on the top end. Congrats Ryan on another win!

ODSS Season Closer at SPE: Personal Bests and a Diesel Grudge Race

The quite frankly action-packed ODSS season ended this weekend with an SPE-sponsored final race that more than delivered. There was a ton of racers in everything from bracket, to 6.70 and 5.90, to Top Dragster, and there was a whole host of personal bests. After running more 4.0-second elapsed times than anyone we know, Jared Jones and Dan Scheid turned up the wick in the finals, running an incredible 3.93 at 193.6 mph to win the race. Scheid wasn't the only diesel in the 3s however, as Paul Vasco's Wagler-motivated Duramax dragster ran a crazy 3.90-second E.T. earlier in the day, but broke before the finals. Pro Street hosted some wild action too, with a grudge race between Justin Zeigler and Austin Doidge being decided by a bumper! The finals was just about the closest race imaginable, with Paul Cato's 4.89 beating Justin's 4.85 with a holeshot victory resulting in a 0.0008 win margin! To get more details on the race and for final results, check out our buddies at Green Handle Media, and the ODSS for more coverage, or check out the live feed from the weekend at the Snyder Performance Engineering Facebook page.

2023-24 GM Duramax's Plagued with Recalls

If there's one thing that a new vehicle owner doesn't want to hear, it's that their virtually brand-new vehicle has been recalled for potential issues. Unfortunately in the past couple years GM's line of Duramax engine-powered pickups (both the 3.0L and 6.6L) have seen their fair share of recalls, and even had a "stop sale" for new trucks at some point. Issues have ranged from everything from the tailgate to the ECM, and the new 2024 6.6L models are even reported to have piston-oiling problems on some models. We can't deny that the newer Chevy and GMC models are nice rides, but if you do own one of these diesels, you should definitely look into potential problem areas.

Randy Reyes Breaks......Everything

Randy of Randy's Transmissions has "gone viral" a number of times in his famous Red Delicious Dodge pickup. From racing against bikes up sand dunes, to crawling over rocks in Moab, there's not much the Dodge hasn't done, including make 3,000rwhp. After grenading the motor a while back on a 3,180rwhp pull, Randy decided to give his backup Powerplant a "one last hurrah" on the dyno at Weekend on the Edge, and boy was it a send-off. A steel cable was about the only thing that kept the Cummins from ejecting itself from the truck, and pieces and parts were still found all around the dyno area. Randy reported that although this wasn't the send-off he wanted, he already has an aftermarket aluminum block that will replace the stocker to continue pushing Cummins power into the stratosphere. Only next time hopefully not literally.
