Diesel Emissions Cheat Devices - Stellantis Sued $4.5 Million

"DieselGate" continues, sorta. Yeah we know that was the phrase assigned to VW's issues years ago, but it just doesn't seem to be ending. The latest involves Stellantis and 2014-2016 Ram ProMaster vans equipped with the 3.0L diesel and the issue is essentially the same as we've seen before, including from Stellantis. According to CARB these vans included devices that altered emissions during testing only. Real world on-road testing showed an increase of 55 tons of excess nitrogen (the article does not state how this number was calculated). Full details have not yet been released by CARB but it looks as if the manufacturer will be paying fines to the tune of $4,185,820 US Dollars.

LS vs Coyote Shootout

Several years ago FordMuscle.com, a sort of e-magazine site, released their LS vs Coyote series of videos and articles. It's been about 5 years since the series ran, but it was a great one to watch. Well, given what we can only assumed fueled the decision, the rising popularity of the Coyote, the series is back for 2025. Full rules apparently have yet to be finalized but one thing is for sure, this competition will be based around turbocharger use. With the Coyote's love of RPM we're pretty excited to watch this one.

F150 Lightnings Recalled - Suspension Issue

Almost 12,000 2023-2024 F150 Lightnings have been recalled due to a faulty steering component, or rather, faulty installation of it. According to the National Highway Safety Administration the problem stems from a loose upper control arm nut. While Ford states this has not yet been an issue for consumers, the problem could cause loss of control when said nut lets go. Dealers are to inspect and tighten or repair as necessary.

Another Week, Another Interesting Ford Patent

Ford has been opening up patents left and right recently and they've all been pretty interesting to look at. Last week, we talked about their patent for reporting law-breaking vehicles in their police vehicle lines. This week is an odd one; it's for drive-by-wire tech but with a spin, or rather, no spin. Apparently, Ford's latest patent isn't just for fly-by-wire tech, but includes tech for keeping the steering wheel stationary when someone is entering or exiting a vehicle. It sounds like this was one of fly-by-wire's (the full control of a vehicle via electronics) biggest complaints in testing. Most people use the wheel to assist in entering and exiting the vehicle. However, with a fly-by-wire system, the wheel goes limp when the vehicle is shut down, removing the ability to use it as a sturdy grab handle. Ford's newest patent senses when someone is entering or exiting and locks the wheel to provide the aforementioned handle. It's all in the details, right?

Cool and Odd Ford Finds on BAT

There's always some fun finds on BringATrailer.com, so we thought wed share some cool finds. These are all Fords with an exception or two for obvious reasons, and they're all auctions closing this week.

The first one, with it's picture above, is a 3200 original mile, 2006 Ford GT, Heritage Edition. One of only 343 ever produced, this one appears to be all original and heavily optioned (although the airbags were replaced in 2020, which raises some questions). It currently sits with a bid of $575,000, the highest in our list today.

3200 Mile GT

A 1998 Mustang Hatchback Saleen

Car #700 of 709 produced,  this one's a time capsule. Check out the old Bazooka bass tube still installed. Nothing super oddball about this one, just a fairly rare and super clean driver that looks like it's got only a third of the 70k miles it actually has on it. Currently going for $22k.

1998 Saleen

Safari Style 1968 Mustang Movie Car

Modified and used for the 1999 movie "The Thomas Crown Affair" with Pierce Brosnan. On top of the obvious off road and GT styling mods that can be seen in the image, it's got a 5.0L Coyote under the hood. Not your typical movie car that's all looks, with no go. This one's currently at $61k.

Coyote Powered 1968 Mustang

28-Mile 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R Heritage Edition

When these cars are delivered to the dealer, they usually have around 10-miles on the odometer. So the owner of this one only has maybe 18-miles behind the wheel. Good luck finding one with less miles. Current bit is at $104k.
