Nearly 300k Super Duty's Recalled For CP4 Failure Concerns

This one we all saw coming, but why is not what we all thought would be the reason. Ford has just recalled nearly 300k trucks equipped with the 6.7L Powerstroke. Recall years span 2020-2022. The reason being given for the recall is due to bio-diesel deposits. These deposits formed not during normal usage, but while the trucks sat in storage for abnormally long amounts of time during COVID. Apparently the fuel didn't exactly age well during storage adding deposits to many parts of the fuel system.

CompetitionDiesel.com Closes

The site most of us diesel enthusiasts spent way too much time on early in our lives has just been shut down. CompD as it's been affectionately called was an online forum style website where users discussed technology, events, and more all in the diesel space. In an era before social media took over, CompD was the place to discuss anything diesel related with like minded individuals. At the time, the only real places to get diesel content was from magazines, or from CompD and a couple other smaller forums. The closing of this site is a huge point in history diesel enthusiasts will remember forever. RIP CompD. You were one of the biggest reasons many of us got into diesel, the industry owes you a huge thank you.

Mustang Sales Less Than Mach-E In 2024

Ford's 2024 numbers have just been published and this one blows our minds. Ford sold 51,745 Mach-E units and 44,003 gasoline Mustangs in 2024. That's 7742 more Mach-E's than gasoline powered Mustangs. Ford points to supply chain issues that put 2.3L Mustangs in short supply, plus a surplus of Mach-E's due to the OE's e-vehicle initiatives.

Ford Sales Up in 2024

Another one coming from Ford's latest release of it's official 2024 numbers. Sales were up overall last year! With all the negative news regarding Ford's stock prices, supply issues, long order times, C-level employee resignations, recalls and more, it's extremely refreshing to know the brand ended 2024 on a positive. Official growth is 4% over 2023, which is the best growth the OE has seen since 2019. Ford officials offered this statement: "The Ford Motor Company strategy of offering customers a variety of powertrains and vehicle types helped Ford grow retail sales in last year,...The Ford F-Series best illustrates the company’s Freedom of Choice strategy with gas, diesel, hybrid and electric models. All of these F-Series versions saw year-over-year sales growth in the final month of 2024"

Ford's Latest Patent - Advertising

As we read the latest Ford patent application, we can't help but think of the movie Ideocracy. Ads everywhere. Well the latest from Ford is their patent regarding serving ads to passengers in public transportation vehicles. The patent is a little hard to fully understand, so here's our take. The vehicles in question are listed as autonomous vehicles which are currently being used in Detroit. A user would request a ride much like ordering an Uber. Ford's system would look at their route plus any info on the user learned through their app (such as search history) and then offer a deal to advertisers to serve this user with their ads. Route changes could be made to take people by specific areas as determined by the advertiser. Advertisers could range from local companies near the passenger's destination (or even near places they frequent as Ford would have the users location history) to national advertisers likely sourced based on search info gathered from the users. In terms of advertising accuracy, meaning serving ads to the correct people, people who are most likely to buy a company's products, it's sorta genius and something we're surprised we haven't seen in cabs before.

Ken Block's Hoonitruck Heads To Barret Jackson

The brand "Hoonigan" was started by Ken Block and Brian Scotto (amongst others) and included a series of truly epic videos every automotive enthusiast couldn't help but love. Many of the greatest videos included Block's Hoonicorn, a Mustang based vehicle, but more than a few included the Hoonitruck, a 1977 F150 AWD truck powered by a 900+ hp Ecoboost. If you haven't seen any of the videos, just search Hoonicorn or Hoonitruck and you'll get a bunch of great ones. Unfortunately Block passed a couple years ago and Hoonigan was also sold to a large holdings company. Well a few days ago Barret Jackson released that the Hoonitruck will be on the auction block at their famous Scottsdale event. Speculative posts from those with knowledge to be able to accurately predict this, estimate the truck will go for more than $200k. The Hoonitruck is to be auctioned with no reserve.
